Once a month I enjoy a few hours of my own. I rise early, fill my travel mug with fresh coffee, and head south down Route 1 in Davey Baby’s truck. It only takes me 15 minutes before I turn off the highway and into the Miles Memorial Hospital Rummage Sale parking lot. Here I commune with strangers. We laugh over each others purchases that we say we don’t need but must have and comment with a ‘nice find’ when someone has found what we’re looking for, but weren’t quick enough to score ourselves.
I’ve begun to play a little game with myself. I walk in with a $20 bill and a large, worn L.L. Bean bag. That’s my limit. I cannot spend more than $20 and it pretty much needs to all fit in that one bag. Here’s what I found for $20 this morning.
I’m a bit intimidated when it comes to the clothing area. The tables were piled high with clothes being sorted through and I just didn’t have the interest to participate. I did spy these size 9 LaCrosse rubber boots under the Men’s table though. They were in ‘like new’ condition. I just wiped the dust off with a rag when I got home. These will be stored away for either son 3 or 4.
At the pet area I found 3 new squeeker toys for our dog, Trey. The fish bowl was covered inside and out with dirt, but it was nothing a little elbow grease didn’t wash away. Son # 3 wants to give #4 a Beta fish for his birthday in November. We’ll put this away until then.
Amongst the plant pots in the gardening area a came across this cool pot that I’ll resurrect during the holidays to force paper whites in. It will be gorgeous, you’ll see.
Over in the holiday decorations I found an unopen bag of Christmas bows and ribbon. I can always use these!
I vowed not to spend all my alotted time in the book area this month, but I couldn’t pass up 3 soapmaking books and 1 Christmas crafts book.
Over in housewares I found a new sugar bowl & creamer set. Sugar bowls just do not stand a chance of survival in our house. The tile counters and floors in the kitchens ensure that they are only temporary visitors.
I found a full set of black with white speckling mugs, a Calphalon spaghetti spoon, a set of 12 denim cloth napkins, a down pillow that I discovered fits nicely in a large low basket. The basket & pillow are our newest cat bed. (If our kitties take a liking to it!)
My favorite find of the morning was this sleeping bag for Sawyer. We were 1 shy of the 3 needed for our Labor Day weekend camping event. An unopened bag of bobbers that will find their way in to one of our sons stocking this Christmas and missing from the photo is a brand new tennis ball. Sawyer and Trey already absconded with that to the front yard to play fetch! :0
So that’s everything that I bought for $20. It was fun and I’m already looking forward to August’s sale.
How about you? Did you hit up any yard or rummage sales today?

Those are awesome finds, thanks for sharing!
When is the sale in August? I tried to find some information on the web, but had no luck. Thanks!!
Oh you found some great things! Glad you found the sleeping bag. I found 10 books for 25 cents each (i couldn’t resist the book table!).
have a great day!
