Today's Shaw's Trip

Our pets really like Iams pet food and it was on our shopping list for this week. I for one was happy with the Proctor & Gamble Catalina running this week. Here's how it worked for me.

I bought :

• 1 - 17.5 lb. bag Iams Mini Chunks Dog Food $18.99
• 1 - 8 lb. bag of Iams Original Cat Food $14.99
• Total before coupons $33.98

I used:

• $5.00/1 8 lb. or larger Iams Dog Food coupon that came inside the last bag of food I bought
• $3.00/1 3.5 or larger Iams that came from the last P&G Sampler
• Total after coupons $25.98

The coupon for a FREE i-tunes gift card did not print out at the check out, so off to the courtesy desk I went. They gave me the i-tunes card there. This will go towards a Christmas gift!

As I rounded the corner of the cereal aisle and started up the coffee aisle, my eye caught sight of a coupon left on the shelf. It was a Shaw's Catalina coupon for a FREE Coffee-mate! "It must be expired" I thought. But no! It had an expiration date of 7/16/10! Fantastic. Shaw's had 1 flavor, French Vanilla. These will be good for camping this summer. Thank you Coupon Fairy!

It's My Day To Cook!

It's my turn to cook over at From Blah to Ta-Daa! I wanted to share with you my mother, Nana Flora's, awesome potato salad recipe. The flavor of this salad is outstanding. Really. Of course I wouldn't be my mother's daughter if I didn't play with the recipe a bit and add my own twist! When I saw these beautiful garlic scapes at the farm stand down the street I knew I wanted to try substituting these for the scallions in this recipe.

Nana Flora's Awesome Potato Salad

Ingredients:

8 red potatoes, scrubbed and sliced

1/2 lb. of fresh green beans, stemmed and sliced

1/4 cup sliced scallions OR 1/4 cup cup garlic scapes

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper

3 Tbsp. Fresh Tarragon chopped (or 3 tsp. dried)

3 Tbsp. Fresh Dill chopped (3 tsp. dried)

3 Tbsp. Fresh Chives chopped

3 Tbsp. White Vinegar

2 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

3 Tbsp. chicken broth

2 Tbsp. Spicy Brown Mustard

Boil potatoes 6-8 minutes.

Add the green beans and cook another 3 minutes. If you're using scapes add these to the boiling water at the same time as the green beans to soften them up a bit.
While the vegetables are cooking mix vinegar, EVOO, Chicken Broth, Spicy Brown Mustard, Salt & Pepper together to make the dressing. Set aside.

Drain potatoes, rinse in cold water and drain again. Add your chopped herbs.

Pour on the dressing and stir gently.

My pictures do not do this salad justice. The flavors of the dressing and fresh garden herbs are out of this world. I particularly like that there is no mayo in this potato salad. It's wonderful at summer dinners, barbecues and picnics and the flavor just gets better as it sits over night.

Because of this verbage at the bottom of the coupon, "cannot ge added to additional discounts such as case discounts", I don't think you can combine this with other coupons. I think this will work great with bulk food purchases, spices and fresh fruits and vegetables.
