Around The "Honeymoon" Table

This month at Around The "Honeymoon" Table I wanted to explore cooking with children. Young children love to be where you are, doing what you're doing. Let's start with a recipe children as young as 2 years can cook with:

Monster Toast

This recipe comes from a very cool childrens cookbook called Kinder Krunchies that I picked up at our local childrens consignment shop years ago. Pictured above is the line up of supplies and ingredients you'll need to have on hand. Be sure to use white bread. The artwork really shows up best on white. I can pick up Friehoffer's organic white for $1.00 a loaf at our local bread store.

I love that this cookbook is so kid friendly. It has both rebus and written instructions so that even the non-readers in your family can follow along.

Pour a little bit of milk in a glass and add 3 drops of food coloring. Stir.

Paint a monster!

Toast and butter the unpainted side lightly.

Munch your Monster!

I used this recipe with the children in my accredited child care. The girls very rarely made monsters. We had alot of rainbows and butterflies! We even had some artwork Picasso would have been proud of. This is just plain fun!

Hannaford Offering Coupons Online?

If you've signed up to receive your Hannaford weekly flyer delivered directly to your inbox then you received a surprise. Hannaford has offered a manufacturers coupon for $1.00 off Lubriderm. This coupon doesn't coincide with any sale they are running right now but I'm going to take this as a good sign that Hannaford is taking baby steps towards offering their shoppers more coupons. It is a pdf coupon that will expire 3/31/2010.

Land O Frost Sale @ Hannaford

Starting Sunday, 3/7/2010, Hannaford will have Land O' Frost 1 lb. packages of turkey or ham lunchmeat on sale for $3.99 each. Use this $2.00 Land O' Frost coupon to pick up yours for $1.99 each! That's inexpensive lunchmeat!

I plan on purchasing the ham and freezing it for future lunches. Turkey doesn't freeze well. I was able to print 2 coupons per computer using the backspace key after the first print. I do not have a twitter account and left that space blank. It prints fine without giving that information.

Yucky Stuff Is Lucky Stuff

We went on a walk this morning and found this bottle on the side of the road. It bothers me to no end that people cannot wait until they get home to dispose of their trash. We always take a plastic shopping bag with us and pick up what we can. As you can see I have cleaned out the bottle inside and out (and banked the 3 point code under the cap!) and it has dried thoroughly. A dirty bottle on the side of the road is yucky, but I think I can make something lucky with this.

I took off the plastic label and using an exact-o knife I cut a hole in twice the size of our dogs kibble.

I measured his evening dinner in it and put the cap back on.

He will push this all around the house in all directions. The kibble will come out a little bit at a time.

A dirty old bottle from the side of the road, Yuck! A toy that will keep our pup entertained while we're away at hockey practice, how lucky is he (we)!
